erving the President of the United States, "The President's Own", as The United States Marine Band is also called, traveled with Abraham Lincoln to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania in 1863, where the President gave the historic "Gettysburg Address".
In 1859, The Marine Corps adopted a new uniform. Today's "Reactivated" 1859 Marine Band (Frontier Brigade Band) wears an authentic reproduction of the U.S. Marine Band Uniform worn from 1859 to 1875, which included the American Civil War period. The new Dress uniform of the Frontier Brigade Band has been replicated with the invaluable assitance of The Smithsonian Institution who holds the last survivng period band coat, and The Waterbury Button Company (our buttons are stamped from the original 1859 dies).
